Welcome to our first night out!
Tonight I went out on my kickscooter for the first time to see just how bad our public lighting is and I was shocked once I started counting. In my first night out in 4th ward, I counted over 15 lights out. I started just noting the pole in my Notes App and then went home and tried to report them on the Duke Energy Website. That was a challenge, because our poles don’t have numbers and most of them are not mapped on Duke’s site. I saw first hand just how hard this would be.
Two days later I get a call from a Duke Technician wondering where all the lights were. He stated the poles were not marked and he works during the daytime and cant tell which ones are out without some kind of marking. I apologized and went out that night and marked them with painters tape.
Well it rained for 2 nights and the Duke technician started fixing my lights and I was exited to see something actually fixed. I went out to see the lights were actually on. What I did had worked, or so I thought. I had to now peel this painters tape off these poles and it was sticxky and guey and most of the adhesive stayed on.
Needless to say, the next night was using Goo-gone on 15 poles.
